Tesla Given Essential Workforce Exemption from New Covid-19 Order

Updated: Published by:

The California Department of Public Health has deemed Tesla employees “essential workers” in the state.

The exempt designation means that Tesla’s car plant in Fremont, California can continue operating providing that it complies with its prior Covid-19 safety plan.

California’s new Limited Stay at Home order applies to most of California’s residents and imposes a curfew. Nonessential work and gatherings are to cease between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

CPHD states that since manufacturing is listed as an essential workforce, the order does not apply to Tesla.

Local authorities in Alameda County, where Fremont is located, could place additional restrictions on top of state guidance in the future.
