Trump Administration Denied Request to Block California Sanctuary Laws

Updated: Published by:

U.S. District Judge John Mendez rejected the administration’s request for a preliminary injunction on three California laws that were passed last year.

The Justice Department’s injunction request was another attempt to suppress the efforts of sanctuary states and cities. While Judge Mendez’s decision was a blow to the Trump Administration and its Justice Department, the judge still issued a warning that courts were “no place for politics,” stating that this opinion would “neither define nor solve” immigration in the U.S.

Judge Mendez granted the Justice Department’s request to block California from enforcing a law that sought to limit private employers’ cooperation with federal immigration enforcement.
